Caught this on YouTube today. It's easy to be critical of Butler but he's a boxer without any real punch to speak of and so it was unreasonable to expect anything other than the performance that Butler gave - he clearly only wanted to survive the 12 rounds. That said, he wasn't on the "run" for every minute of every round and Inoue had plenty of opportunities to get to Butler.

It may be a bit churlish to criticise Inoue given Butler's attitude however, as negative as Butler was, Naoya should have been able to land enough clean punches on Butler's chin to stop him well before the 11th round. Butler took many body shots however for the most part he was able to keep his chin safe using his head movement and parrying many of Inoue's shots with his gloves. In the end it was yet another body shot that stopped Butler. I'm sure junior featherweights like MJ and Fulton will have found Inoue's performance interesting.

Finally, I thought the (ESPN?) commentary was too critical of Butler, they criticised him throughout the fight, and didn't level the slightest criticism of Inoue for taking so long to get rid of him.

Those commentators should consider that Butler didn't have to agree to an undisputed fight in Japan so that Inoue could become the undisputed champion - Butler could have ignored Inoue and simply defended the WBO belt against lesser opponents in the UK.

I know Butler got a very big purse, even so facing the p4p #1 and the likelihood of being badly knocked out by one of the biggest p4p punchers on the planet may have put off other boxers - however Butler agreed straight away to the match-up. Give the kid, who had no punch to keep Inoue at bay, a smidgen of credit.

I enjoyed the fight and do not have an ansere for why Inoue took till the 11th round to KO Butlet. But I do not look at it as a mark against Inoue he did what he had to do he looked good doing it, I saw no upcoming flaw in his perforance that may show up in later fights. I would have to really use my imagination to come up with some kind of defect in the monsters performance in what he did in the ring. Just take a look at what Lopez did when comfronted with a slippery runner. He got caught, he got frustarted he looked like he did not have the skills to catch his opponent and complained about his opponent not being willing to stand still and in front of him after he got the nod. We all see dif things when watching a fight that is why they have three judges ringside.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I stand by what I pointed out about Tuesday’s fight.

Inoue complained about Butler and was clearly frustrated, that’s why he started the hands behind the back business.

Considering the level of the opposition, compared to someone like Donaire, Inoue should have been able to stop Butler long before he did - imo his performance wasn’t up to his usual high standard.

As much as I think that Inoue wasn’t at his best, I agree that he won every round.

Although we may disagree about a fighter’s overall performance after a fight it shouldn’t lead to disagreements between our scoring during the fight.

The rules for scoring a fight are clear and if they are followed correctly the three judges’ scorecards should be close.

A judge’s subjective opinion after the fight, such as the winner not being at their best, shouldn’t have affected their actual scoring during the fight.

His behaviour was unusual for him but taken the fighter on his whole fight history it did not bother me. Maybe i have seen so much in boxing that that was no big deal who knows. I was talking along the lines of I enjoyed the fight I enjoyed his display of skill and taking the fight to him. I took the show boat stuff as more of a statedgy then anything else. I do not know the history too well but I am sure all fighters at some point in some fight have acted similar in the ring to some degree. It is frustrating to be fighting and to have someone doing stuff that is hard to combat in the ring. Hopefully we both enjoyed the fight for better or for worst. In boxing there are a lot of grey area's not just between the ears. Who we got up next in the ring ? I did not check may not be anything else till after the new year ?
