Dan, it's quite the niche. You are hands down the best boxing obituary writer of all time. You truly do the individuals and their careers justice. Obituaries are an unappreciated art and they really matter to family and friends. This follows your excellent write-up on Mike McCallum. Substitutes need not apply.
That’s sad. Grew up watching him. More than the first Holyfield fight, which I watched live on TV, I will never forget his two fights with Saad Muhammad. Legendary stuff. Great fighter. Camden and the Jerz stand up!
If you like podcasts. Season 1 of ESPN "30 for 30" has an excellent podcast episode about James Scott, his prison fights and everything surrounding them.
Saw a lot of your title fights on free network tv back in the day cause you were in must see bouts, you definitely earned the buzz saw name and what a heart! Rest Easy Champ
One of my first Boxing memories as a kid. Was going to Gemco (they no longer exist). And hanging out in the TV section, while mom was shopping. And on most of the TVs was Holyfield/Qawi. I was transfixed by the action movie level savagery. It was my gateway drug to Boxing. Sorry Nancy lol.

Also watched that Scott fight live on TV from Rahway State Prison. Talk about things you would never see today! Thanks for nice write-up, Dan.

RIP Champ, never in a dull fight, DMQ always came to rumble. Thanks for the great fight memories Mr. Qawi.
