Ennis looked very good. It spoke volumes that Benn called out Porter a fight that won't happen and 2 fighters far past their best, chinny Khan + struggling to make weight Brook whose 3 + 3 in his last 6 bouts. Benn needs to first beat current top Brits before moving to the next level.
Jaron Ennis dominated Lipinets from pillar to post. Lipinets had a good win over Peterson and made a good account of himself at welterweight so I had him rated higher than Hooker. Ennis's team has been moving him the right way. He should eye a shot at Jamal James, Kavaliauskas or Abduqaxorov
Well done to Conor Benn who has made some good improvements recently however he isn’t ready for the likes of Porter and he isn’t yet at the level of prospects such as Ennis and Ortiz Jr.
Patience and the right opponents as he progresses could get him to the top though and as he’s only 24 there’s surely no great rush.
The matchmaker for Benn has done a great job as none of his opponents have won a bout vs a live opponent. Vargas his best opponent has been ko'd vs everyone of note whilst Benn's other opponents are text book padded records they look good but are against nobodies.
Benn only had 22 (20 - 2) amateur fights and so he has a way to go to become a genuine challenger for a world title.
However, Benn's last two opponents, Formella and Vargas, fought Shawn Porter and Vergil Ortiz Jr (respectively) in their previous fights which means they were perfectly respectable opponents for a fighter at Benn's stage of development - in fact Benn handled both opponents better than Porter and Ortiz Jr had.
So yes, Benn has a long way to go, however credit where credit's due as he handled these last two opponents much better than most expected which imo shows he has made improvements over his last few fights.

I agree
