This is disappointing. I first saw Connor Benn on the undercard of the GGG V Kell Brook fight almost 6 years ago and his seemingly slow progress in the pro-ranks has been attributed by some, to a brief amateur career. This not an unreasonable explanation. He has now started to step up and has looked good against Chris Algeri and van Heerdan but still has a long way to go to get through the ranks at 147. This fight is a commercial exercise rather than legacy defining and the result will be academic as the weight will become an issue one way or another i.e. either Eubank was too heavy or he lost to much getting down to the catchweight. Personally I would like to see both fighters focus on their natural divisions.

Eubank Jr will be 33 by the time this fight takes place. The only opponent Eubank Jr has faced out of the 4 sanctioning body 160lb top 10s is Liam Williams - his last fight - which means Eubank Jr certainly doesn't have the resume of a top contender.

As Eubank Jr attempted to entice Kell Brook into fighting him at a catchweight prior to Conor Benn it seems that Eubank has his eyes solely on his bank account rather than any of the world middleweight titles. A lack of ambition has characterised Eubank Jr's career and there's no reason to suppose that's gonna change any time soon.

Conor Benn will be 26 by the time the fight takes place and imo his career can take a loss from this contest more easily than Eubank Jr's career. That said, you never know how a loss at a catchweight can affect a fighter physically and/or mentally - Kell Brook was never really the same after the Golovkin fight. Hopefully nothing like that will happen to Conor and he will get back to the 147lb division asap.

However should Conor win - I hope Eubank Jr doesn't have a rematch clause as that would mean Conor would be away from the 147lb division for far too long.
