Can a 40 year old GGG move UP in weight and beat Canelo although most of the scribes (writers) believe it’s a “wash” for Canelo. I don’t think so. Although The location fits Canelo.....will the “BYRDS” show up (someone like the BYRD) and have a pre made score in their mind mentally. At this time the judges are under more scrutiny than ever before. The social media public is “wired up” more than ever. Don’t fool yourself. This will be the MOST action packed fight of the 3. GGG may make history on this night. He’s busier and has the jab advantage. Will being 40 make a difference? Yes, it does..... but his heart and desire will show up. We may be in for a huge surprise. I saw something in the Bivol fight that the 40 year does like Bivol but only better. Of course, GGG is smaller but we are in for a MAJOR contest. Keep punching.

So who wins in your opinion?

Watch them today and its clear Leonard is taller. against Hagler Leonard id slightly talller but against Duran Hagler's a couple of inches taller. Fighters who've fought them both said Duran was the shorter man, Hagler's biography by Brian Hughes to Leonard himself. Look at the first fight when both men faced each other during the promotion of the fight, Leonard is clearly inches talle, in fact he looks more than 3 inches taller. Regardless it doesnt matter, Leonard is probably the first boxer to make rematches when fighters had aged out, be it Duran who called for a third fight straight away but waited 9 years for a rubber match to Hearns waiting 8 years. The problem with the A side fighter is judges are biased towards them to that they get to call all the shots even to the detriment of the sport. Sadly money rules over the sport.

Sadly Golovkin goes down as losing a first fight which asides from fanboys the rest of planet Earth thought Golovkin won by roughly 4rds at least and a second closer fight that at best for Alverez was a draw but again most of planet Earth saw Golovkin winning by a narrower margin now reminiscent of Ray Leonard making the smaller, older in age and far older ringwise Roberto Duran age out so as to get an easier win in their rubber match and so allow the gravy train to roll on. Its a pity Golovkin was avoided for so long.

I was with you up to the Duran business. As a Duran fan you will no doubt disagree with me however imo Leonard did nothing like what Canelo has done - in fact I'm amazed that you can seriously suggest that he did.

Firstly, Duran wasn't forced out of the lightweight division to fight at a higher weight class - as he aged he could no longer make 135lbs, especially as he ballooned up between each fight.

His last fight at lightweight was the De Jesus win in Jan 78 - however he didn't give up the lightweight title until a year later in Jan 79 (he was 28) - this allowed him to fight at 142, 151 & 147 during that year (Jan 78 - Jan 79) and choose which weight he preferred to fight at.

Duran chose welterweight and was in that division from Dec 78 onwards and his frame compared favourably with the other welterweights. He had another 5 fights at 147 between Dec 1978 and June 1980 - beating the excellent ex-welterweight champ, Carlos Palomino, in June 1979.

The Leonard fight took place in June 1980 which Leonard lost so he triggered the rematch clause and the rematch took place 5 months later in Nov 1980 where the 24 year old Leonard beat the 29 year old Duran.

As Duran wasn't a small welterweight he was able to move up to 154lbs after the Leonard loss.

Duran was by no means "aged out" at only 29 and went on to be successful beating Davey Moore for the WBA 154lb world title in 1983 and Iran Barkley for the WBC middleweight title in 1989.

IMO Leonard did nothing like what Canelo has done to Golovkin. GGG is a career-long middleweight and is being forced up to 168lbs specifically for the third Canelo fight, whereas Duran couldn't make lightweight and moving to welterweight was his own decision and done long before the Leonard fight.

Canelo waited 4 years until Golovkin turned 40 before agreeing to their third fight - Duran was 29 for the first and second Leonard fights which happened in the same year - what's more Duran was nowhere near "aged out" as he went on to beat many top fighters and win world titles at higher weights.

Apart from Duran was smaller than everyone he fought at welter weight, Ray Leonard was 3 inches taller and the natural size disparity increased as he moved up the divisions as he got by on his skill set til father time began to remove that. Watch Duran today with his opponents and they naturally dwarf him in size.

Yes, Ray was 3 inches taller than Roberto but of course height isn't the only aspect to consider between them both. IMO Roberto had broader shoulders and a more rugged, muscular physique than Ray who appeared pretty skinny by comparison.

I agree that Roberto looked smaller than most fighters at 154 and 160 when he fought the likes of Laing, Moore, Hagler, Barkley etc., and his success showed how great he was - an ATG.

Yeah there are vids of guys like Carlos Palomino saying when he first met Duran he thought his bigger size would help him win the fight to Hagler remarking how the smallest, oldest of the so called 4 kings was who took the challenge to fight him first. You can get a good idea of natural size disparity by seeing the 4 men together and other opponents like Iran Barkley later in life. Apart from Hagler who was a 160lb fighter his whole career Leonard ended up at Light Heavyweight, Hearns at Cruiserweight or say Barkley at heavyweight. At super middleweight Duran looked like James Toney, too fond of eating cakes.

Some interesting points there and I can agree with you about Hagler and Hearns however I don't think we'll ever agree about the relative sizes of Leonard and Duran especially when they fought LOL.

I happened to read an article today on The Ring website about the Leonard - Hearns fight where it said that although Leonard was supposed to be 5'10" he was in fact closer to 5'8" (see link below if you'd like to check it out, it's a good article) which isn't a lot different to Duran's 5'7".

To double check I re-watched the Leonard - Duran fights on YouTube and I'm now even more convinced that there was little height difference between them and that they were well matched in overall size.

What you say about Leonard winning a world title at 175lbs is true but he never weighed anywhere near 175lbs.

After the Hagler fight Leonard won a 175lb title and a 168lb title in the same fight against Donnie Lalonde who agreed to make 168lbs (shouldn't have happened but that's boxing).

Leonard was 8 years older (1988) than he was for the Duran fights (1980) and had put weight on however he still wasn't really big enough for either of the 168 & 175 divisions since it's common knowledge that Leonard had weights in his pockets at the weigh-in for the Lalonde fight and managed to weigh 165lbs - the real weight of Leonard being estimated to be not much heavier than 160lbs (middleweight). So Leonard won those world titles but was never really big enough for those divisions.

At least the DAZN card will be free to subscribers of the PPV APP that is why they got those two fighters on contract so that those that sub$ribe to DAMNZONE would have there two guys as a guarentee of several fights by both men........"Never a PPV to be shown" You want a perfect example of why boxing never gets past the low level number of fans anymore just check these fighters out and there platforms out........... They screw you on the cards of the first two fights and use that as a reason you must watch them again, they build up the record of Saul without a chance of him loosing until he took a chance a challenge in his last fight..... They start a PPV APP on a lie and a bundle of them lies as they went forward then expect people to jump to buy this ? And they say Don King is a criminal ?
