Kinda surprised Calderon got in. Lower weight classes, especially back then, don't get a lot of attention/respect. He was very talented but as said could be boring to watch. I had Collazo over Hatton back when I watched it live.
It is awesome. Just an absolute blast, many boxing people and folks are somewhat accessible. Turning Stone is the host but there are other hotels in the area. Only about 25 mins from Syracuse. They have the big banquet the night before, usually a live card at Turning Stone, Saturday morning a memorable card show at the local high school walking distance from the museum, on Sunday the parade and induction ceremonies. If you are a die hard fan it's buck list stuff to do.
Moorer a HOFer, eh? Well make room in there for Tim Witherspoon who probably has a better resume. Ugh.
Happy for those elected, though. Boxing takes from boxers a helluva lot more than it gives, so to have this distinction (deserved or not) is at least some acknowledgement of their sacrifice.
sure, but not a HOF difference. And there are plenty of "belt holders" that are better than the "lineal" champs throughout the past few decades. Hell, Tommy Morrison was the lineal champ, and he beat Foreman, and has a similar record, so why not the Duke in the Hall? I know you didn't vote for Moorer, so I'm not quibbling. Just a silly system the Hall uses.
I dont disagree just thought the Witherspoon comparison was off base. I did not vote for Moorer, but I get why others did. Morrison has never been on the ballot and I wouldn't vote for him either.
Dan's article says Michael Moorer boxed from 1998-2008. I'm assuming this is a typo and he meant 1988-2008
Yup

Being boring is not a deal breaker. Calderon was a GREAT boxer.
Anybody been to Canastota for HOF weekend? Wondering how difficult to get, and pricey, hotel rooms are for that event.

Michael was THE champion. Witherspoon never was. It makes a difference.
