There could be a rematch the australians are going to protest to the wb o about the long count with out that Navarrete would been knocked out for sure, but good on Navarrete he showed the true heart of a Mexican warrior to get up and win the fight,it is going to take one hell of a fight to beat this as fight of the year no big name fights yet,but we have seen two fight of the year contenders inside a week,on Liam he showed he is a good fighter and did not disgrace himself he can come home with his head held up he put up a great fight and showed what knew over here a big left hook
Navarrete wouldn't been knocked out, he's too smart and experienced for that, that's why he dropped his mouthpiece to buy himself more time, a true veteran move.
I know Liam Wilson has complaints about Navarrete getting a bit extra time to have his gumshield replaced however it's a brave referee who decides that a fighter has deliberately spat his gumshield out after being dropped, since docking another point means the opponent takes the round 10 - 7.
A bit more time to replace gumshields has always happened in boxing and unfortunately it's become a tactic used during a knock down.
Wilson can count himself a bit unlucky but should be proud of putting up such a great effort in only his 13th contest.
It was a very exciting fight but imo that's because both fighters were so defensively poor. Both lads seemed to be totally open.
Navarrete is fighting Valdez next - unless Navarrete tightens up significantly then "Mr Herbal Tea" will flatten him.
I feel like Tim Bradley is becoming a little bit more like Teddy Atlas with each broadcast. I don’t think I’ve seen Joe Tess do the full face-palm since the old PBC time-buy days.
Question for the audience? Would love to hear your thoughts! Do you feel "some' referees protect the 'house' fighter? Do you feel "some' commentators lean 'heavy' towards the house fighter? If you do...give me your thoughts...I love to hear from FANS....WITHOUT you.....there are no fight shows. Keep punching.
The best fight of this night was Wilson/Navarrete. Liam Wilson was the junior lightweight champion of the world for 20 seconds.....the time the referee took to allow Navarrete clear his head. This kid with a record of only 11-1 fought like he was defending his championship and wasn't left on the canvas but still on his feet. Was it a good stoppage? Probably so.......but in truth....this 11-1 kid stole the show from the 36-1 with 30 knockout 2 time champion. It's fighters like this the networks are missing out on....the ones with little exposure with little opportunity to have selected opponents on TV. I absolutely like this kids heart....Keep punching. Thanks for a great show and opening the doors for others less fortunate that don't have a big name promoter watching over them.
Benito he would of been knocked out it was 27 seconds that is a long time I am not calling him a cheat it referee I am on about 27 seconds before he started the fight again that is a long time when Navarrete was clearly hurt as I said in my post he showed great heart to go on and win the fight
" ... because I think it was about at 20-second count ..."
Very droll.
There must be something done about fighters spitting, spitting their mouthguards as a tactic. Of course, if mouthguards are genuinely knocked out, that should be ok.
You heard of a late reaction knockdown due to a punch? Well This was a late reaction to spitting out a mouth guard in the ring. It's not cheating It's allowed UNLESS the boxer keeps spitting out the mouth piece two or more times on purpose.
Did not know as I am not really a fan of biffing. Liam must be spitting his drinks in the dressing room.
Most knockdowns don't result in the guard coming off. Look at Fuiry Wilder III. No guards came out.
I thought the idea behind the mouthguard was to protect the teeth. Logically there is a difference between the guard being *spontaneously* knocked out by a punch and a boxer spitting it out after a punch had already landed. It is supposed to be involuntary. For example, when Ruiz decked AJ in the first fight, AJ's spitting out his guard was clearly a delaying tactic.
I saw a clip where a boxer's guard dropped on the floor, the ref picked it up and shoved it back in! The commentators went "eew!"
I've been hit before, a punch can definitely throw our your mouth guards. Have you ever been punched in the face very hard?
Yet you are also correct in that many boxers throw away their month guard on purpose to gain more time. It's a veteran move. The ref won't take a point unless it's done again on purpose.
That was my point: of course, a bull's eye punch can knock the guard. out That is the point: knock the guard out. Not the biffer spitting it out way after the punch had landed. It must be involuntary.
Look at all the spot-on punches and how many guards were spilled out? ~0.01%. Look at the Fury Wilder matches 2 + 2 + 5 kapows and not one spillage. Look at the punches Wilder landed on Fury: no spillage. Look at all the KOs Wilder inflicted in his 43 fights. The guards rarely came out because the guys were knocked senseless!
Since W did not punch out mouthguards routinely, I don't expect lighter punchers to do better than him.
If a guard does not come off immediately after impact, then it is a deliberate delay tactic. Ask AJ.
Exactly! But if you do it once no problem, if you do if twice the ref gives you a warning. Three or more times it's a point deduction or a disqualification even if it is done by a punch. Navarrete did it just once after getting knocked down. It's fair game in boxing.

After a couple of clunkers I’m happy there was such an entertaining card the whole way through
