It's a tough one: Bivol was excellent last time out; he's always seemed to have the class but hasn't shown it often enough over the course of his career [maybe because he hasn't had to].
At the same time I really rate Ramirez. If I had to pick: Ramirez to break him down [after being outboxed for good parts of the fight] for the late stoppage.
Mr. English man in LA. I forgot if I've written to you before this topic, but do you like or follow other Mexican boxers like El Zurdo Ramirez? It's a matter of honor and pride. Thank you.
Anyone who follows boxing follows Mexican fighters, quite simply because there are too many greats to list. The first I watched was Sanchez; everyone knows about Chavez [he fought a kid I grew up with (Andy Holligan) to move to 89-0], Castillo, Barrera, etc. My favorite was/is JMM.
Mr. Englishman may I please know what is your earliest memory, history and/or knowledge about México, Mexicans and Mexican culture as far back as you can possibly remember as a child or in your native England?
In other words how did you first learn about Mexico (its name for example) as far back as you can possibly remember in England?
Perhaps your very first knowledge about México occurred in school, or from watching television, or a movie, or perhaps listening to a song in the radio where it mentions México or something relating to México? Or perhaps it was your parents or other family members or friends or others who first introduced you to anything relating to México or Mexican culture growing up? Or perhaps your very first knowledge of México occurred in some other way?
For example my first knowledge about England was in México 86 I was 6 years old and I didn't know what an "England" was until I saw England playing Portugal to a 1-0 loss in Monterrey, México. That's the first time I recall that England was the name of a country. Lol. That was my first World Cup that I remember.
Short answer: Boxing - Sanchez. Then food - beginning with enchiladas, fajitas, nachos, guac and all the other the other things I later discovered [during my first hol to Mexico] were Tex-Mex; i.e. - while I still like them now, the more authentic food was better. Same hol also brought Dos Equis on tap. And yep - we all remember the 'Hand of God.' Living in LA enabled a more immersive experience in relation to people/food/culture. All excellent. Plenty to admire and respect.
Am not going to comment- on any particular pc of the info --passed onto us in the write up this morning ....What I would like to say is very nice to have the info and the background to all of these fights past present and future laid out this morning. Getting ready to roll out the door right now but thanks man for the effort and appriciate the podcast Smooth and to the point with plenty of facts and introductions to the fight game ... I know it sounds like I am blowing smoke but screw that jack am just stating the facts. I do a lot of reading to keep up on boxing n Dan is the Man if you want to read something that is straight up and easy to understand. Simple as hit and dont get hit. Yea but simple dont mean easy two dif things there.
I really hope Golovkin wins as he's already won twice but as again Bivol showed unless you literally whitewash Alverez you might have a tiny little chance of getting a razor close win from the judges. If someone ko'd Alverez the judges would likely score it as a draw.
Frankly i don't give a shit about nationalities of boxers, i prefer the better man won rather than it being a popularity contest. Overwhelmingly everyone thought Golovkin beat Aloverez by 4 or 5 rds in the first fight. The second was closer and most thought he won that too although an argument can be made for a draw but a win to Alverez was purely a business decision not a sporting one. Its telling how his team let him age also before fighting the guy. First fight took an eternity and the rubber match 4 years after the first.
I thought you had a problem with Canelo Alvarez from where he comes from. My apologies. The first GGG Canelo fight was close in my eyes, a draw was fair in my opinion, the second fight I thought Canelo edged out a victory. Even in the Spanish media, GGG's own trainer agreed with the decision. This new fight shouldn't have happened, GGG is too old now, he might get knocked out.
Duran may I please know do you like or follow any boxers from the same nationality as Canelo? I'm just curious thank you.
i like boxers on ability, their nationality or race is secondary to me. I hate it when the A side fighter gets wins that the B side fighter thought won. Been a fan for 40 years and i did a tiny bit of amateur boxing as a kid, in the North of Ireland there are many amateur boxing clubs there far more than there is in say next door Britain where is boxing is also popular. As for Canelo vs GGG pretty much all of Europe, boxing trainers, boxers outside of Mexico + Canelo's team and promoters thought he won very clearly. These are non Spanish speaking or Kazakh countries so had zero biases. Canelo's a good fighter but he simply lost that first fight but sadly future money making directed the judges scorecards.
I respect your opinion Durafan. I thought the first fight could have gone either way, yes Canelo was back peddling fighting from going backwards but was out boxing and out body punching GGG. A tie was fair but I guess, I'm biased. The second fight was close too but I think Canelo edged out a win there. As I said before, even GGG's own trainer agrees with the decision in ESPN Deportes. I saw the post fight interview.
My friend if you don't mind may I please know what is your nationality? Are you Panamanian? I just want to know whenever people from other countries either mention my country, my people or my culture. In your case Canelo Álvarez. Thank you.
Sorry but i think your coverage was biased, the US coverage, British, Irish and German all had Golovkin winning wide. It was a controversial draw with the infamous Adelaide Byrd somehow scoring it 118-110 to Alverez even though compubox had Golovkin outlanding Alverez in 10 out of the 12 rds. Most critics had it as a robbery, look up wikipedia or boxing media at the time. Nevada called for an instant rematch because of the scoring but Alverez failed a tested positive for banned peds. Alverez was then given a token meaningless 6 month suspension so basically no punishment he then withdrew from a quick rematch. Watching or reading a media with zero cares or biases on the first fight is very different to Spanish speaking media, even DAZN had GGG winning wide in the first bout, they also had 3 outside judges scoring the fight rd by rd, all three had Golovkin winning. Whilst the first bout was seen as a robbery the second bout was internationally mostly scored as a Golovkin win, a narrow win or at best a draw for instance in the second bout World Boxing News compiled all the scores given by others scoring the fight so had Lennox Lewis having Golovkin winning by 2 rounds as did Michael Woods NY Fights.com Dieter Kurtenbach San Jose Mercury News had GGG winning by 3rds, Sherdog scored it 116-112 to Golovkin, Harold Lederman HBO scored it 116-112 to Golovkin, Brian Campbell CBS Sports 116-112 Golovkin, Eduardo Lamazon Televisal 116-112 to Golovkin, The Guardian 116-112 to Golovkin, Gareth A Davies Daily Telegraph 116-112 to Golovkin, Barry Jones BT Sport 116-112 to Golovkin, Jeff Powell Daily Mail 116-112 to Golovkin, Steven Muehlhausen Sporting News 116-112 to Golovkin, Dylan Hernandez LA Times 115-113 to Golovkin, Adam Abramowitz Ring Magazine 115-113 to Golovkin, Michael Montero 115-113 to GGG, Jerry Izenberg NJ Advance Media 115-113 to Golovkin, Jesse Grainger Las Vegas Sun 115-113 to Golovkin, Phil Jay World Boxing News 115-113 to GGG, Jai Bednall news.com.au 115-113 to GGG, Michelle Joy Phelps 115- 113 to GGG, Josh Peter USA Today 115-113 to Golovkin, Joe DePaolo Washington Post 115-113 to Golovkin, Mike Costello BBC 115-113 to Golovkin, Mike Bacca 2 Ring Magazine 115-113 to Golovkin, Chris Mannix Yahoo Sports 115-113 to Golovkin. The following didn't give a score but called it a win for Golovkin were Stephen A. Smith ESPN, Teddy Atlas ESPN, Al Bernstein Showtime, Andreas Hale Sporting News, David Faitelson ESPN Deportes, Skip Bayless Fox Sports, Boxing Monthly, Gary Melo SportsNet Canada Golovkin win. The followed scored the second bout as draw 114-114 were Dan Rafael ESPN, Arash Markazi ESPN, Brett Okamota ESPN, Salvador Rodriguez ESPN Mexico, Jorge Eduardo Sanchez ESPN Deportes, Sports Illustrated, Lance Pugmire LA Times, Kevin Iole Yahoo Sports, Mike Coppinger Ring Magazine, Douglas Fischer Ring Magazine, Brian Mazique Forbes, Associated Press, Bill Simmons HBO, George Willis New York Post, Marcos Villegas Fight Hub TV, the BBC's Steve Bunce scored it 114-114 with the caveat that he scored it a draw by giving every remotely close rounds to Alverez. The only 2 who gave it as a win for Alverez was Boxing Monthly and Michelle Rosado Raging Babe 115-113 to Canelo, Final media score was 33 judges scoring it as a Golovkin win, 16 who gave it as a draw and just 2 who called it a narrow Alverez win.
I hope Showtime puts Derevyanchenko (and Mielnicki, I guess) on its YouTube channel before the main card starts at 9:00 pm. Notwithstanding his name, The Technician is never in a boring fight.
I don't know if we can watch the fight or not, ESPN-Plus is the only one who might pick it up but I doubt it.........However youtube would be an option 10 minutes after it is over for sure >>I have done that many times from other parts of the world......You probably know that already but still had to mention it...
If it happens, it will be great to see Ramirez in a genuine fight at 175!
Who do you root for in a Ramirez vs Bivol fight mate?
It's a tough one: Bivol was excellent last time out; he's always seemed to have the class but hasn't shown it often enough over the course of his career [maybe because he hasn't had to].
At the same time I really rate Ramirez. If I had to pick: Ramirez to break him down [after being outboxed for good parts of the fight] for the late stoppage.
Good analysis My English friend.

That's Álvarez, and even though I'm not a big fan of Canelo Álvarez, he's still my compatriot, you want to compare my country's to yours Duranfan.
I almost forgot, isn't Durán's father from an interesting country? 😎
