Hi Dan - you got me into boxing poster collection - I have an on-site from Ali/Frazier 1 as my prize, but my favorite fight of all time is Hopkins/Trinidad. What a masterpiece by Hopkins. If you'd ever consider selling that one, please reach out to me.

Mayweather just can’t get enough money huh?

It is a joke isn't it all this garbage Mary Weather puts out there and yet people pay for it. it never stops to amaze me...........Why do those that write about boxing even talk that kind of stuff up ?

MarvNation making the Zepeda vs Prograis fight PPV on Nov 26th may seem reasonable as there's no competing fights (yet) on that date - however it's due to be only a week after the Crawford vs Spence PPV on Nov 19th which will probably cost fans quite a lot to watch and I don't think most fans will be prepared to spend money on another PPV the following Saturday. If this is the case then MarvNation could lose quite a bit of money.

You could be right about the money that people are willing to throw away I do not know but Marv will get exposure exposure they normally would not have without the high bid and eventual fight. And that matters only to Marv and has nothing to do with or help Boxing. I see the fight going the way of Triller is some form just has that feel about it. I like how they say oh we bid so much for this fight it HAS TO BE PPV what a joke. Just like Wilder HAS TO BE PPV bc Wilder vs Hell bound costs too much to put on any other way. Money can do a lot of good some places but it sure does ruin sport over all when the excuse for over charging and sending out an inferiour product is we have to over charge what it is worth ............Give me a break.

IMO PPV should be kept for only the very best fights (eg: Crawford vs Spence) but even these fights shouldn't be charged at the amount that the likes of PBC are charging.

As you say at the moment US fans are being charged ridiculous PPV prices for fights that are not ppv-worthy.

The only way of stopping this is for enough US fans to stop paying these prices for PPVs and then hopefully the promoters will realise they can't keep charging such prices for fights - especially those that shouldn't be ppv. I can't think of any other way of changing the current situation.

That is true to a degree ONLY if the fan decides to refuse to be used in the way promoters use the fight fan will this even change with the PPV garbage they put out there. it is garbage bc the fights are not worth the money or the hype they put out there. Not that the fighters are or are not garbage. But many need to take responsibility for the current situation. Yes the fan must refuse to take the bait by way of starvation of the sport as they did during the Summer of 22 but there is more to be considered. ........

That of the writers or those that have podcasts are they not or do they not hold some responsibility to telling the truth ? Telling the truth when it comes to what they talk about how they can become as much a promoter as the guys who present themselves openly as Promoters of the fight game ? Boxing dont get coverage in the main stream press or the media of TV sports. Just how that is we could talk that to death and still not change it the TV coverage of boxing. But most fans look to podcasts or online write ups of boxing, many put a lotta stock in what is written or said on those forums. Is there not a chance that some of those guys intentionally avoid speaking the truth bc of there relations to the coverage and access of the sport.(fighters) I have heard of writers not getting access to those who speak the truth. Or there tickets may be cut off to live fights in primo seats. so there are things to look at Ozzy and those are just a few of them. It is hard to get close to a person on certain levels and speak the truth but that is the business of journalism or if you will sports journalism. Sounds a bit off to call it journalism but it takes more then just being able to turn a phrase or pretend to know more then the average guy in sport to carry that mantle.

So as I think about it the Fan yes utimatley has a big part in the PPV situation but also those that do boxing reporting, boxing podcast, boxing articles on-line lets hold them to account also. Yea I believe so. Knowledge and enjoyment of the fights is not enough. Sometimes it is not what a person says it is what he dont say that makes a difference................

Yes John you make a very important point - in fact all the "big" boxing journalists are in the pocket of those that run boxing eg: sanctioning bodies, commissions, promoters, boxing broadcasters etc. If they tell the truth too many times or ask questions that these bodies don't like then they lose access to certain boxers, lose accreditation as part of the boxing press for many fights (no free entry) etc., etc.

If they continue in this manner they eventually get so much grief that there's no point in them reporting the sport anymore.

The reason I know this is because this happened to Gabriel Montoya who was a very good boxing journalist who reported on the cheaters using drugs within boxing, he kept writing articles about the bad situation in the sport and asking questions that certain promoters (including Arum), commissions and the crooks in the 4 sanctioning cartels didn't like - eventually they made the job so difficult for him (unable to get anyone prepared to talk to him etc.) that he wasn't able to continue to write for the top mags and websites.

I don't think most fans realise how controlled the world of boxing actually is.

It is very unlikely that any boxing journalist is going to tell the real truth about the various problems in the sport because they know what could/would happen and Gaby Montoya is a prime example that they will all probably know about.

Nobody rocks the boat too much and they remain in their jobs telling fans exactly what "the powers that be" want the fans to know.

Well Ozz I do agree with you on all points about the Boxing Press in that they often become the promoters themselves that is being given a list of talking points or sides to take on an argument and roll and run with it, some more so then others but still it is there. The main thing I take away from this is that it is important to realize that this behaviour is prevalent in Boxing and that it can drive the topics we talk about, the money we may spend on fights especially the PPVs bc that is how this whole topic got started.

I do not want to let the Boxing writers pundents or whatever you want to call them be the main driver of how I view boxing, sometimes there input is helpful in following the sport n sometimes some put a lot out there and on the line to let us see the show as it is or could some day be. Mighty charitable of me huh Ozz ? I say these things about writters bc the sport of Boxing can turn a guy like me into a constant negative, nasty, critical observer of the sport and its various outlets. Very easy to do or behaive like that or become that way so I stay aware of those things.

I will just say it takes a lot to be a boxing fan most sports are not as deceptive or crooked as boxing can be or at least they take the time to stick it to you without you realizing it. Boxing just slaps you around with it as if - well if you are dumb enough to believe this trash we are saying it is your fault just please keep giving us your money - you stupid fool of a fan..........So it goes with PPVs or PPV APPs and the like. I mean has any writer ever tracked the number of PPs and PPV outlets that have sprung up, it is so profitable that Marv is doing it now after what hapened with Triller yea they really cared about the sport of boxing. I mean it is OK to make money but when money and manipulation is all you are about ...............Forget About It..................

It’s also the Saturday after Thanksgiving in the U.S. I’d probably suck it up and buy two PPVs in two weeks, inasmuch as I basically just accept getting fleeced is part of being a boxing fan. Problem is, I’m going to be caught up with at least a dozen relatives, pretty much none of whom care a lick about the sweet science.

Maybe I should get into the PPV bussiness......

I could stand outside a Barroom at 2:00 A.M. and record the drunk fights outside the local bars and charge a small fee for those street fights...... Seems to be a market for PPV if you call it PPV it has got to worth the money...... Never Know.....

As there's clearly a market for that "Arm Boxing" rubbish you could be on to something there John.

Andrade has completely screwed himself. Nothing against the dude himself (probably a nice enough guy, i guess?), but he benefited greatly from the original DAZN cash cannon and was overpaid for years for fighting guys outside any realistic top-25 and weak manadatories, and it seems to have inflated his sense of leverage, as he's vastly overplayed his hand. He's a boring fighter with very few quality wins, and now he has nowhere to go. No big fights, no mandatory position, no promoter of note, and very few fans that will notice he's gone. What a mess he's made.

Andy is doing fine with the money boxing has already thrown his way If he cared about the fight game he would not be trying to talk his way out of fights or pretend he wanted to be somebody in the fight game.

You said the promoters are experienced operators. Likewise with broadcasters. They should have contract templates and checklists on hand.

I agree that dollar amounts should not be disclosed; however, the splits and rematch cause are fine.

Boxing needs free publicity. And social media are a key tool. Remember, without the fans, they would fight in pubs and clubs.

I saw no problem with TF media-bashing AJ. It was fodder for the fans and the media.

To me, the RF-AJ deal was simple if they all wanted it:

60/40 between TF and AJ parties. Simple.

It seems that there will be no TF-AJ fight.

Wilder has the power punch; and Joyce has the granite chin. There was no way AJ could have handled those smacks from Parker.

The TF - AJ contract talks has stalled due to problems between DAZN & BTSport.

Fury / Warren are with BTSport whereas Joshua / Hearn are with DAZN.

This is a very common problem in boxing but I'm sure these problems could be overcome with a bit of patience and discussion.

However Tyson Fury is determined not to allow both parties time to discuss the problem - it is Fury who is repeatedly threatening to pull out not Joshua who has accepted the split, venue & fight date.

If Fury pulls out of this fight just because DAZN & BTSport haven't finished their negotiations then imo he didn't really want the fight in the first place.

Nothing is stopping Fury and Joshua getting on with their training for December 3rd while the suits sort out the contract problems - but Fury clearly doesn't want to do that and I expect him to make some pathetic excuse to pull out any day now.

It is unsatisfying to hear different words from TF, Warren and Hearn's mouths, proving, yet again, actions are more important.

TF, AJ, Wilder, Joyce, Usyk, Ruiz (?) - I am only interested in biffs *between and among* these 6.

They are in physical training, I am sure - however, they need time to prepare for the actual opponents. Interestingly. since Hearn said AJ will fight in December, yet not a word over his potential opponents.

Those involved in marketing need time as well. Hearn said a minimum of 8 weeks are required by them.

I wonder if both parties are merely pumping the public up for free publicity.

Some fair points - Frank Warren keeps parroting what Fury says however Frank is not the guy doing the negotiating - his son, George, is handling the negotiations and he says the contract revisions between him and Hearn are going okay. However Fury's antics can't be helping matters.

There's 9 weeks to the fight date - imo there's no need for Fury to pull the plug now.

I honestly think that a Fury vs Joshua fight sells itself in the UK and the usual 8 weeks of promotion can probably be cut to 5 or 6.

If the gloves were on the other hands, would AJ have offered the SAME terms to TF? And what would TF have done? Remember TF said he signed the Wilder 1 within 24 hours - admittedly, TF did not have exclusive commitments like AJ has now.

The terms stated by Warren in this article were confirmed by Hearn

This article is by Frank Warren who hates Eddie Hearn and is terrified to contradict Tyson Fury in case he leaves for another promoter.

All I can say is that in the article Frank Warren claims that as of Thursday (2 days ago Sept 29th) they haven't heard from Hearn - this is not true.

Both George Warren and Eddie Hearn have confirmed in interviews that...

(1) the revised contract was returned from Matchroom to Queensberry Promotions on Monday, Sept 26th.

(2) Queensberry returned the contract with their written suggestions for change to Matchroom on Thursday, Sept 29th.

This happened on the week that Frank Warren in the article says that nothing was heard from Hearn. It's easy to find interviews from George Warren and Eddie Hearn discussing how the contract negotiations are going on YouTube.

If you won't believe Eddie Hearn then find what George Warren (not Frank) has been saying about the negotiations.

That is all the promoters ever do is pump the public they want to get a feel for how much noise it makes on media, if enough people are talking up the fight they are acting like they are making. Look at all the extra boxing noise you get during the 2-3 weeks intervails between fight cards. A lot too much scatter shot....
