I have created a better scoring system that proves itself with Chocolatito/Estrada and will revolutionize future fight scoring + minimize split decisions and reduce judge incompetence. Want to share with YOU privately.
The current system of using 3 judges at ringside with different views of the fight is archaic imo.
For the big fights I'd be in favour of 5 (truly random) remote judges (appointed and paid independent of the promoter), as has been trialled in the WBC remote judging experiment, in addition each judge should be able to switch between different views of the fight on the screen(s), along with slow mo, fast forward & reverse playback etc.
However, judges should always have to justify their cards if necessary, and take regular continuing professional development, with the option of retraining if needed, to keep their skills sharp - all the tech in the world won't help if a judge is simply not competent at the job.
I think if they did 5 judges and tosses each fighter's extreme card you'd probably do okay. So the 117-111 would have likely been tossed in a (5 judges, keep 3) sort of deal.
I had it 114-114
Big fan of yours. Wanted to know what are your thoughts on the Muhammad Ali card set being created by Topps?
Thanks Dan. I think if we see a rematch then I can get past the bad judging and call it a win for the freaks . I mean it IS subjective, but jeez dude!
Totally forgot about the showtime card. It seems like ages ago when HBO/Showtime was the home of big time boxing.
Should get fined too.
Love your coverage of boxing!
Thank you!!
