Jake Paul and Amanda Serrano's excuse for not taking the Taylor rematch in Ireland is supposedly because they don't think that Serrano would get a fair shake from the judges.
Even if you set aside the fact that Taylor agreed to fight Serrano in her home town at MSG, then other points to note are...
(1) Judges in the rematch wouldn't be Irish or even from the UK, they would be drawn from all over the world and both fighters would have to agree to them.
(2) Most of the top fights happen in the US, and many involve non-US fighters, it's a good job that these non-US fighters don't have the same attitude as Serrano. In fact many non-US women boxers have had to go to the US to fight Serrano and so for Serrano to refuse to fight abroad in someone else's back yard, because such a situation would put her at a disadvantage, shows she's totally unaware that she may have benefitted from these situations herself many times.
Katie Taylor has never been able to fight in her home country of Ireland and the Serrano fight would have attracted a huge crowd (80K-ish), and been a great fight for Katie to have signed off her career with.
Today is definitely a quantity over quality fight day… but I’ll still be following along!
