Agreed - this split is ridiculous. The WBA have allowed Santa Cruz to keep their featherweight "Super" world title title since December 2019 without defending it - during that time WBA featherweight world title contenders such as Leigh Wood have had to settle for challenging for the so-called "regular" world title as this was the only so-called "world" title available to them during that time.
Wood won that "regular" title and has defended it once - while Santa Cruz has done nothing at 126lbs. In these circumstances Santa Cruz doesn't deserve the usual champion's split and I would argue Wood, the active fighter, deserves a greater percentage.
It'll be in the US of course. The third Santa Cruz vs Frampton fight didn't happen because Santa Cruz wouldn't fight Frampton in Belfast - despite verbally promising to do that in order to make their second fight.
I'll concede that Prograis is talented. But I'm not sure why the whole "140 Bogeyman" narrative got started. Nor why it seemingly still endures. Regis lost the only big fight of his career, THREE years ago. Josh Taylor won a competitive, but clear decision. Zepeda may not be a "Bogeyman", but he is a scary spoiler type. I favor Zepeda slightly in this fight.
> Prograis would only have himself to blame if he didn't get to challenge for one of the two vacant world titles.
Following the Taylor loss, he decided to go with PBC instead of Top Rank (bad decision) and is now with Probellum. So since the Taylor loss he's only fought and beaten Hearaldez, Redkatch (Triller Card) and Tyronne McKenna (in Saudi Arabia) which is hardly a murderer's row of 140lbers.
Consequently Prograis has been given the chance of regaining a world title more on his reputation than what he's done in the ring recently.
> Daniel Dubois not being paid for the Bryan fight is no surprise to anyone in boxing. Everybody and their dog warned Daniel Dubois not to get involved with Don King. One person who didn't see any problem was Frank Warren, Dubois' promoter, and he has to take some of the blame for this as he was well aware of King's reputation for not paying fighters.
I watched both Cuevas-Hearns and Cervantes-Pryor live on regular TV. I had no idea I watched them on the same day. I had completely forgotten that. Great stuff, Dan.
That double-header reminds me of how lame today’s boxers are with this “fight every nine months” BS. Like Santa Cruz-Wood. Can someone schedule the fight already? In the ‘80s this fight would’ve happened in April or May. We’re losing all the great unification momentum from the first half of the year. I’m starting to think I should check out of boxing for a couple of years. What difference would it make? These guys fight once a year anyway.
Yea that is true LA, stepping away from boxing for any amount of time when you return most of the names will be the same and so will the complaints and frustrations. Following boxing can be a nasty habit but once I was bit by the Boxing Bug there was no turning back. No matter the games and crazinest of the fight game. The more things change the more they stay the same......
Santa Cruz 'agrees' to fight Wood - with the 75/25 split put in place to deter the fight from happening. Just my opinion.

And I don’t think Santa Cruz would’ve beaten Conlan that night.
Agreed - and for all we know Santa Cruz may not be able to make 126lbs, and be strong, any more.
hope Santa Cruz vs Wood takes place in LA!🙌🏻 Still cant believe Santa Cruz vs Frampton 3 was never made.
