Christmas Day PBC card; Top Rank and featherweight contender Lopez agree to new deal; WBO rules on Casimero; Khan-Brook U.S. rights; Quick hits; Show and tell
Seems to me that Joey Spencer ought to be the headliner on Christmas Day, with Vito Mielnicki in the co-feature. I feel like the latter got kind of exposed against James Martin.
Thurman has averaged less than 1 fight per year over the past 5 years (check out BoxRec) and lost his last fight to a 40 year old Manny, who also dropped him, while Barrios is new to 147 and also lost his last fight at 140lbs (by TKO).
So neither fighter is currently at the top of the division they're currently in and in fact they're both trying to rebuild from rather embarrassing defeats - imho this fight is not ppv-worthy.
Maybe you wouldn’t find losing to a 40 year old who was well past their best or being stopped by a smaller cherry picker who avoids the best opposition as embarrassing but that obviously says more about you and your lack of judgment.
Having been involved and watched boxing for over 50 years I can judge what I’m watching and can put it into context.
I don’t accept PBC/Haymon BS and I’m not a fanboy of anyone.
I love Keith Thurman and I love Louis Ortiz, or at least I enjoy watching them fight, and I am absolutely going to buy those PPVs so this is not me throwing shade at all....but is the PBC starting to play a little fast n loose with the PPVs? Keith Thurman, Louis Ortiz, Andy Ruiz Jr, the Charlo bros, none of these guys strike fans as legit PPV guys but they've each been tasked with headlining a PPV card in the past year or two. Am I off here? What are your thoughts?
