A+ stuff as always freak!! But PBC is either gonna have to off load dozens of fighters, or all 12-13 events they put on better b Don King loaded. PBC, new deal, same problem. INACTIVITY AMOUNG its most talented fighters
No mention of exclusivity so I wonder if they're looking for another outlet to supplement. 12-14 a year including PPVs isn't a lot. I also wonder if Dazn will buy the international rights.
I've seen how this movie ends plenty of times already. But if it gets some Boxing folks some more paydays, great. One thing about the these Streaming Apps. If a show or program doesn't hit the expected numbers, it gets canceled quickly. Great shows like Mind Hunter and Showtime being most recent examples. The Wire never would've made it past Season 1 today. BTW, congrats to Stephen Espinoza for also landing in his feet. All of those approved "Tune Ups" and "Showcase" fights paid off.
These are multi year agreements though so they can't cancel boxing like a show after one season. I guess multi year could just be 2 years as opposed to a more secure 3+ years but you get my point. Boxing is also truly international. The wire might be a hit but if it airs dubbed in a country with no gun violence it might bomb. Ideally these services would have boxing as a hit in usa but if they also have international rights (like dazn for most events) and its a big hit elsewhere they can swallow the lower domestic numbers. It's the way were moving. TR has tons on ESPN+ and ESPN actually extended thar deal shortly into it. Dazn obviously. Peacock just got on board with Boxxer. Even Prime has ONE Championship MMA and now PBC.
Dan mentioned in his pod today. That he thought it was interesting that no actual term of contract was included in the press announcement. I use the Wire as an example. Just from other stuff I’ve read. Some folks that produce shows feel like Streaming Executives have become more focused on initial results, rather than a long term view. Shows like Seinfeld, Cheers, The Wire took time and patience to find and grow their audience in the past. That’s no longer the case. Show Time (HBO Max) and Mind Hunters (Netflix) might’ve been given the same patience in the past. When considering their high quality and prestige. But no longer, for now.
No terms is interesting but a lot of these streaming deals are that way. Netflix (before the strike anyways) never released viewer data. Espn doesn't disclose espn+ viewership and primes deal with ONE MMA was/is similar in vagueness. I'm assuming Amazon is handling production but if not that's a huge expense regardless what Amazon is paying.
12-14 cards is likely 8-10 PPVs (based on recent history), so not a lot of audience building free cards here. Hopefully there’s another outlet for non-PPV cards, though unlikely. PBC has shown itself to be a PPV business these days, so in that regard it could be on the fucking Gardening channel… you want to watch a PBC card, you pay for it.

excited for this, hopefully they hire some of the old HBO folks for its production/talent team.

Not exclusive and they are looking for another partner.
Makes sense!!! 12-13 cards with that roster gonna b tough
Is canelo apart of the prime deal or will his two remaining ppv fights be distributed through showtime?
Prime. Showtime is done with boxing/PPV at end of the month.
There is no Showtime deal after 12/16. It’s on to Prime…

What happened with the previous request PBC put in for January 13th in Nevada? Is that now dead? Or might PBC try and do something independently?
Any word on broadcast teams? Please no Ranallo....please.
Good stuff Dan!
