Nothing against Subriel Matias. But the schadenfreude is strong, when another purported "Boxing Bogeyman" bites the dust.

The Matias no. 1 Jr welterweight talk always rubbed me the wrong way. It's Teo lopez. He's the lineal/wbo champ. If we're respecting the rules of who's the man that beat the man there's no discussion it's teo.

The whole “Everyone is avoiding so-so because he’s a Bogeyman” rarely works out. I mean, Regis Prograis was another recent “Bogeyman”. Benavidez is the one I’ve been giving the Side Eye to. Finger Pointing and Excuses are the typical bogeyman banter being used enhance his case right now. But David could’ve fought Canelo long ago, when Canelo was chasing Undisputed. If he would’ve stayed off of the Nose Candy and kept his Title in the first place. That always gets glossed over. BTW when has Benavidez ever even unified Titles?

I get a chuckle when someone says bud "needs" to fight boots. Boots seems like a solid fighter but who has he beaten/what has he done that would make anyone think he could be competitive with let alone beat bud.

Bud is at a point in his career, just like Canelo. They beat or at least fought all of their true contemporaries. They can pick and choose within reason. Boots or Benavidez would be fun fights. No problem. But both Boots and Benavidez haven't exactly been in any hurry to fight their own contemporaries. Morrell for example, Vergil until he moved up. Tank gonna be thirty and NOW wants to fight Loma. No coincidence they all got PBC/Mayweather in common.

To go in with the most fearsome puncher in the weight class in his home country paro showed guts and class to get the win

I'm a big fan of David Benavidez, but I think David looked okay, but not great at 175 pounds. Despite winning the fight convincingly, David seemed to tire in the 2nd half of the fight and his punches did not seem to have much effect at 175 pounds. David never really hurt Gvozdyk despite landing a lot of good punches on him. I think David would be a underdog against both Bivol and Beterbiev.
