The big fight of the weekend, of course, was the heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and MMA star Francis Ngannou, who crossed over to boxing. We discussed Fury’s shockingly poor performance and near loss in detail. We also covered WBC junior lightweight titlist O’Shaquie Foster’s highly entertaining comeback 12th-round knockout of Rocky Hernandez and undisputed women’s featherweight champion Amanda Serrano’s rout of Danila Ramos in a historical bout. We also discussed news of the week and two notable anniversaries.
Here’s what we discussed on this episode (in order):
Recap of the Fury-Ngannou spectacle: Fury getting knocked down and barely winning by split decision; Ngannou’s tremendous performance; where that leaves Fury’s planned undisputed title fight with Oleksandr Usyk; and much more. We also covered the undercard, including Fabio Wardley’s impressive KO win over David Adeleye and Joseph Parker’s highlight-reel KO of Simon Kean.
Recap of Foster’s late surge to stop Hernandez and their epic 11th-round, which is probably going to be the consensus round of the year.
Recap of Serrano’s superb performance against Ramos in a women’s bout scheduled for 12 three-minute rounds.
Lightweight prospect Keyshawn Davis’ positive drug test for marijuana that resulted in his win earlier this month being changed to a no contest and a 90-day suspension that will cost him a fight planned for Dec. 9.
Announcement by Most Valuable Promotions that Shadasia Green and former undisputed women’s super middleweight champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn will meet for the vacant WBC title on Dec. 15 in the co-feature of Jake Paul’s next fight.
The Nov. 15 world title doubleheader in Japan being postponed due to WBA bantamweight titlist Takuma Inoue suffering a broken rib.
Discussion on the 49th anniversary of arguably the single most famous fight in boxing history, Muhammad Ali’s upset knockout of George Foreman to regain the heavyweight championship in “The Rumble in the Jungle.”
Ringside memories on the 25th anniversary of when Prince Naseem Hamed retained the featherweight title against Wayne McCullough in an extremely significant fight in my journey covering professional boxing.
Please give it a listen! Also: rate, review, subscribe and enjoy!
