There was just one big card this weekend — Saturday’s Riyadh Season event headlined by the rematch between unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and former champion Tyson Fury. We recapped the fight in depth and discussed the undercard. We also went over news of the week and looked back on the anniversary of a significant fight.
Here is what’s on the show (in order):
Recap of Usyk’s second decision victory in a row over Fury to retain the lineal and unified heavyweight title in a good fight but less dramatic than the first one in May. How did Usyk do it, thoughts on the scoring, where they both go from here, Usyk’s place in history, and more.
Recap of the undercard, including heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma’s blistering first-round knockout of Demsey McKean; Serhii Bohachuk one-sided stoppage of Ishmael Davis in a WBC junior middleweight final eliminator; and heavyweight Johnny Fisher’s action-packed slugfest against David Allen and the heavily disputed decision.
I am in my 25th year of full-time boxing coverage. Take advantage of that experience by upgrading to a paid subscription for full access to all posts and comments — and also support independent journalism.
Jaron “Boots” Ennis, who has already outright dodged Vergil Ortiz, ending talks to defend his welterweight title against junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez because he prefers a unification fight, none of which appear to be immediately available.
Thoughts on the first six 2025 first-quarter cards announced by Matchroom Boxing and DAZN.
The IBF ordering an all-French super middleweight final eliminator between Christian Mbilli and European champion Kevin Lele Sadjo.
Memories on the 16th anniversary of when then-WBA heavyweight titlist Nikolai Valuev got a gift decision over 46-year-old Evander Holyfield, robbing him of the history of becoming a five-time heavyweight titleholder and the oldest to win a world title in what was one of the worst fights in heavyweight title history.
