A note to Fight Freaks Unite readers: I created Fight Freaks Unite in January 2021 and eight months later it also became available for paid subscriptions for additional content — and as a way to help keep this newsletter going and for readers to support independent journalism. It’s a hybrid recap and preview show with a lot of news as well. We recapped Tuesday’s all-out slugfest between Kenshiro Teraji and Carlos Canizales and previewed Saturday’s Jaime Munguia-John Ryder fight. There is also a deep dive into PBC’s announcement of its kickoff Amazon Prime Video pay-per-view event topped by Tim Tszyu-Keith Thurman. We also covered a bunch of other news and looked back on the anniversary of three significant fights that I was ringside to cover.
Here is what’s on the show (in order):
Recap of the sensational Teraji-Canizales fight that Teraji eked out to retain the unified junior flyweight title but with questionable scoring in the final two rounds. We also went over Seigo Yuri Akui’s upset decision over Artem Dalakian to win the WBA flyweight title in the co-feature.
Preview of the good-looking super middleweight fight between Munguia and Ryder, which headlines Golden Boy’s card on DAZN.
A detailed breakdown of Thursday’s announcement of the PBC/Prime Video pay-per-view event scheduled for March 30 in Las Vegas. We went over all four fights on the card and plenty of other stuff.

My reporting on the Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol fight for the undisputed light heavyweight title that is close to being finalized for June 1 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
My reporting that terms are agreed to for Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. to meet for vacant IBF lightweight title on May 12 in Perth, Australia.
Ringside memories on the 20th anniversary of when the late, great Arturo Gatti came off the Micky Ward trilogy and outpointed Gianluca Branco in an underrated fight to win the vacant WBC junior welterweight title.
Ringside memories on the 15th anniversary of when Shane Mosley beat the living shit out of Antonio Margarito and knocked him out in the ninth round to win the WBA welterweight title in a huge upset on the night Margarito got caught trying to enter the ring with loaded hand wraps in what became a massive scandal.
Ringside memories on the 22nd anniversary of when Vernon Forrest dropped then-P4P king Mosley twice in a one-sided rout to win the WBC welterweight title in major upset.

Hey Dan - love the newsletter. Thank you!
Quick question. I’m introducing my girlfriend to boxing and she says she doesn’t ‘get’ Arturo Gatti. Which three fights most capture his spirit and why, in your opinion).
Do you have any information the undercard bouts being on prime being free as in zero dollar cost like on freevee?
