LAS VEGAS — It’s fight week and TJ and I are here covering the Errol Spence Jr.-Terence Crawford mega fight on Saturday night. That’s the one big card of the week and we discussed all aspects of it from the media center, where we were also joined by two guests, retired former two-time welterweight titleholder Shawn Porter, who fought both Spence and Crawford, and PPV.com executive Mark Boccardi on streaming the card. We also recapped Naoya Inoue’s brilliant performance against Stephen Fulton to take his unified junior featherweight title on Tuesday and looked back on the anniversary of a fight between Hall of Famers.
Here is what’s on the show (in order):
Recap of Inoue’s one-sided eighth-round knockout of Fulton to win a world title in a fourth weight class as he made a case for being No. 1 pound-for-pound as well as the future plans for “The Monster.”
Thoughts on the Spence-Crawford final news conference; ESPN largely ignoring the fight and having nobody on site; views on how Spence appears to be struggling with the weight; Mike Tyson doing the coin flip to determine the order of the ring walks and intros; more.
Our interview with Porter, including what he’s been doing since retiring after the loss to Crawford; his detailed thoughts on various aspects of the fight and fighters and how they match up.
Previews of the three PPV undercard fights: the Isaac Cruz-Giovanni Cabrera WBC/WBA lightweight eliminator; Nonito Donaire-Alexandro Santiago for the vacant WBC bantamweight title; and junior middleweight prospect Yoenis Tellez taking a step up against experienced veteran Sergio Garcia.
TJ’s interview with Boccardi on PPV.com as a streaming home for the Spence-Crawford event and what makes this such a big fight.
Memories on the 23rd anniversary of then-WBC junior welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu pounding and knocking out fellow Hall of Famer and all-time legend Julio Cesar Chavez, who was badly faded, in what was the final world title fight of Chavez’s glorious career.
Please give it a listen! Also: rate, review, subscribe and enjoy!
