There was one big card on Saturday, the Showtime PPV event headlined by Canelo Alvarez’s rout of Jermell Charlo to retain the undisputed super middleweight title. We recapped all four PPV bouts in detail. We also discussed the nonstop rumors of Showtime’s impending exit from boxing, the signing of the undisputed heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, more news of the week, and notable anniversaries.
Here’s what we discussed on this episode (in order):
Recap of Canelo’s masterpiece against Charlo and the feeling that Charlo came simply to survive and get his check. We went over it all: the fight, the knockdown, the performances from both, what might be next and more.
Recap of the rest of the PPV undercard, including the putrid decision that robbed Jesus Ramos of a win over Erickson Lubin, Mario Barrio’s career-best victory over Yordenis Ugas for the vacant WBC interim welterweight title, and middleweight Elijah Garcia’s knockout of Armando Resendiz in a sensational battle.
Recap of cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia’s easy fourth-round knockout of then-unbeaten Jordan Thompson in his first defense on the road in London on Saturday in the main event of the Matchroom Boxing card on DAZN.
All week in Las Vegas there was constant talk of Showtime’s apparent impending exit from boxing. We discuss all I have been hearing and hoping none of it is true.
The 48th anniversary of perhaps the greatest heavyweight title fight of all time, Muhammad Ali’s 14th-round knockout of Joe Frazier to retain the title in their trilogy fight — better known as the famed “Thrilla in Manila.”
Memories on the 26th anniversary of the HBO PPV card on which Lennox Lewis destroyed Andrew Golota in the first round to retain the WBC heavyweight title and Arturo Gatti knocked out Gabriel Ruelas in the fifth round to retain the IBF junior lightweight title in an epic battle that was the 1997 fight of the year.

D$ I'm reading TBradley and Algeira both say this fight will NOT happen, intimating that Fury will find a way out. What say ya? Are you confident it will happen Dan? TY
Praise Thor, Fury vs Usyk has been signed.
