There was only one notable card this weekend, Saturday’s Golden Boy show on DAZN headlined by super middleweight contender Jaime Munguia’s ninth-round knockout of John Ryder. We discussed the fight and the interesting undercard. We also discussed the biggest news items of the week and celebrated the anniversary of three historic fights.
Here is what’s on the show (in order):
Recap of Munguia’s dominating, four-knockdown stoppage of Ryder in an exciting fight and one that potentially could position Munguia for a shot at undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez in May. How the fight unfolded; how did Munguia look in his first fight with new trainer Freddie Roach; what does Ryder do now; and thoughts on if Munguia can get the Canelo fight.
Recap of the undercard, including Oscar Collazo’s third-round destruction of Reyneris Gutierrez to retain the WBO strawweight title; super middleweight prospect Darius Fulghum’s decision over veteran Alantez Fox in a step-up fight; Gabriela Fundora’s 10th-round stoppage of Christina Cruz to retain the IBF women’s flyweight title; and junior featherweight David Picasso’s dominating decision over Erik Ruiz.
