Welcome to the Fight Freaks Unite recap podcast coming off the weekend. There were two notable cards, Golden Boy’s DAZN show on Saturday headlined by Ryan Garcia’s one-sided knockout of Javier Fortuna and Top Rank’s ESPN card on Friday headlined by Arnold Barboza’s dominating decision win over Danielito Zorrilla.
Here’s what we discussed on this episode (in order):
All aspects of Garcia’s overwhelmingly dominant performance against Fortuna, against whom he scored three knockdowns in the sixth-round KO win in their junior welterweight fight. Besides the fight itself we spent plenty of time on whether it’s possible Garcia will next face Gervonta “Tank” Davis, whom he has been relentlessly calling out, and why or why not that won’t be the next fight. That was a very spirited discussion.
The Garcia-Fortuna undercard.
Barboza’s convincing decision over Zorrilla despite some anxious moments in the final round and where he fits in at junior welterweight. We also discussed the wins by Raymond Muratalla and Richard Torrez Jr., two of the Top Rank prospects on the undercard.
A trip down memory lane on the 35th anniversary of then-junior middleweight champion Mike McCallum’s incredibly memorable knockout of fellow Hall of Famer Donald Curry.
A trip down memory lane on the 25th anniversary of the bitter grudge match/junior bantamweight unification fight between Albuquerque, New Mexico, cross-town rivals Johnny Tapia and Danny Romero in one of the biggest fights in division history.
And more!
Please give it a listen! Also: rate, review, subscribe and enjoy!
We will be bringing you the weekend recap each Monday. Let me know what you think of the podcast by leaving your comments.

There are many obstacles to overcome for Davis vs Garcia to be made. Haymon has refused to work with other promotional outfits and even if he suddenly had a change of heart to make this fight then would FOX/Showtime or DAZN, or both, show the fight?
Floyd Mayweather has already said the fight can happen but not at 140. Davis has already fought at 140 when he beat Barrios however the WBA "regular" title was on the line and Davis obviously thought this trinket was worth the risk - of course Garcia holds no title and so Davis/Floyd probably don't think the move to 140, simply to collect Garcia's 0, is worth the risk.
Maybe Garcia and Davis will be prepared to fight at a catchweight between 135 and 140 however that would still leave the "different sides of the street" obstacles.
My current view is that there are too many obstacles to overcome to make this fight - I obviously hope I'm wrong though.
Both Davis and Garcia are due proper fights, so hopefully this can be made before the year is through.
