Podcast: Smith-Eubank 2 preview; responding to childish Warren

Plus: Canelo-Charlo pay-per-view undercard thoughts; plenty of news of the week; triple dose of nostalgia

There is just one notable card this weekend, Saturday’s Boxxer show headlined by the middleweight rematch between Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr. in Manchester, England. We previewed the card. I also gave my response to childish promoter Frank Warren for his personal insults toward me because, God forbid, I had a different opinion than he did on the Daniel Dubois low blow against Oleksandr Usyk in last week’s heavyweight title fight. We also covered several news items of the week and had our nostalgia segment featuring three notable anniversaries.

Here is what’s on the show (in order):

• My two cents on Warren’s typical childish reaction to my difference of opinion to his related to Usyk’s domination and knockout of Dubois, despite taking a harsh low blow in the fifth round.

• Preview of the Smith-Eubank rematch of Smith’s upset fourth-round knockout when they first met in January: Repeat or revenge? Will Eubank’s trainer change mean anything? Does the winner set himself up for a title fight?

• Previewing the Smith-Eubank II undercard, including junior welterweight prospect Adam Azim’s co-feature; heavyweight prospect Frazer Clark’s fight with Dave Allen; and the third fight in a row in England for former unified women’s junior lightweight titlist Mikaela Mayer, who is moving from lightweight up to junior welterweight.

• Discussion of the strong Canelo Alvarez-Jermell Charlo Showtime PPV undercard following the fighters appearing at a Los Angeles news conference on Tuesday.

• My reporting on junior lightweight titlist Joe Cordina defending against Edward Vasquez in the main event of a Matchroom Boxing card on DAZN on Nov. 4 in Monte Carlo.

• My reporting on the strong pay-per-view number for the Jake Paul-Nate Diaz fight.

• Heavyweight Zhan Kossobutskiy’s apology for repeated and blatant low blows that led to a disqualification against Efe Ajagba.

• My reporting on lightweight up-and-comer Keyshawn Davis getting the co-feature slot on the Top Rank card on Oct. 14 that will be headlined by the Janibek Alimkhanuly-Vincenzo Gualtieri middleweight unification fight.

• Ringside memories on the ninth anniversary of the tremendous battle between Mexican and Los Angeles rivals Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares for the vacant WBA featherweight title in a fight of the year contender.

• Memories on the 11th anniversary of the spectacular American and HBO debut of Gennadiy Golovkin in a demolition of contender Grzegorz Proksa to retain his middleweight title.

• Tribute to the great Rocky Marciano on the 54th anniversary of his untimely death in a plane crash at age 45 and the 100th anniversary of his birth.
