Does the amount of Ostarine detected have any relevance? What was the amount?

About 60 times more than any place allows.

What does that mean, though? Clearly, Garcia took a PED that wasn’t allowed and consequences should follow. But just to put the result of the fight into perspective, was he completely juiced up? Or was this a trace amount that had a minimal impact? I’d genuinely like to know. I’ve never heard of this drug before and really don’t know anything about PEDs anyway. It would be good to get an expert chime in to add some context.

So from what I’ve read, I feel like it’s becoming pretty likely that he unknowingly took a tainted supplement close to fight week, maybe some kind of fat burner or diet pill, but we’ll know soon enough since they sent everything for testing. Legal supplements tainted with unlabeled Ostarine (and other banned substances) is actually not uncommon and plenty of athletes have popped hot this way before. Here’s an article from 2017 on the issue of supplements containing unlisted ostarine:

From what I gather, ostarine isn’t something you can just take fight week and it would make a difference. It takes a minimum of a few weeks to actually begin having an effect on muscle growth. Given he passed his previous tests just a month prior, if he just took it by accident in the weeks leading to the fight it’s very unlikely it had any performance enhancing effects. For this reason, him taking it on purpose feels even more unlikely, it would make him a complete idiot on multiple levels. Regardless, he should be having every supplement he takes lab tested, this is a known issue. I just read a study that said 6-8% of positive PED tests are from tainted supplements.

Great info - thanks. It does seem strange that he would come in so overweight and test positive for a drug that is used to cut ft and build muscle. Do you know if the amount he had is considered a lot of Ostarine?

I really have no idea. I don’t think it’s necessarily that high levels=ostarine is more effective either. Like if I took an ostarine pill this morning I would probably piss piping hot tomorrow but the ostarine wouldn’t actually be having an effect.

It’s often used in the cutting phase for body builders, over a period of 2-4 months or so to keep muscle on long term while they lose body mass. I knew a girl who was a competitive body builder who took it as part of her preparation leading up to her competitions. So in theory if a fighter was to use ostarine for their weight cut, the proper method to get the desired effect would be to use it for the duration of your fight camp, starting from the beginning. But Garcia was tested randomly multiple times throughout his camp and passed them all until the very day of the fight. It also apparently takes 2 weeks to be undetectable in urine. So Theres really no time line here where it seems like ostarine makes sense.

Also, for what it’s worth, I’m just a lay person reading up on this. From what I gather, there’s a lot of conflicting info on ostarine, it’s pretty new and not well studied.

That's a reason why boxers need a union. Anything that can affect their employment needs to be negotiated and agreed to.

A lifetime ban or a 2 year ban if they name who within the sport supplied them with the drugs. Boxings bigwigs have created this problem with its 2 tier approach. No real punishments for big money generating stars whilst lesser earning boxers get far bigger punishments. Those at top are playing Russian Roulette with the sport and clean fighters, sooner or later a fighter is gonna end up badly damaged or dead and if drug cheating played a part, the fallout will be massive but sadly its not the corrupt mothersf++kers at the top who'll pay, its the fighters and the fans who ultimately bankroll the sport. Its up to the fighter to watch what they ingest, they know whats banned and what is legal and us fans expect those well paid at the top run the sport well and in the interest of the fighters, its fans and the sports longtime health. Boxing needs less cowboys and grifters and one authority answerable to the law.

I wonder if he’ll lose the two million he bet on himself. The man has truly lost his mind.

Going to leave this here… unlabeled ostarine in supplements is real. And if he took it by accident fight week it’s unlikely it had any performance enhancing effects. Of course Garcia could very well be lying, but the more I read the more I have a feeling he’ll be vindicated when they test everything he’s been taking supplement wise.

Not having to cut the last 3.2 lbs was honestly a way bigger factor than ostarine.
