I would love to see Al Bernstein reunited with ESPN. He’d be a massive improvement over shill Tessitore and milquetoast Bernardo Osuna. My favorite era of Showtime Boxing was the mid 2000’s “Great Fights, No Rights”. Corrales, Tszyu, Márquez Bros, Casamayor, Popo Freitas, Vic Darchinyan, José Luis Castillo, Calzaghe, Hatton, etc. My two favorite Showtime cards I attended were Lacy/Pemberton (just prior to the Calzaghe fight) up in Tahoe. Got to sit and talk with HW Champ Lamon Brewster. He was coming off of a forgotten classic HW fight versus Luan Krasniqi in Germany. And of course I had the huge honor of attending Corrales/Castilllo 1. I met James Toney and Chad Dawson. I’m just a fan of Boxing and will continue to do so. Regardless.

Al Bernstein is the most overrated color commentator in the game. You want to talk about milquetoast? How about his dumb “keys to victory,” with such nuanced insights as “use the jab” or “move your head.” Give me a break. Joe Tess (who, by the way, is a blow-by-blow guy, not an analyst) has mad gravitas. Your contempt for the ESPN crew is almost as misplaced as your hatred for GGG.

To each their own with commentators but Bernstein is a former Sam Taub award winner and a HOFer.

You know there's a reason your boy "Joe Tess" was canned from Monday Night Football after just one year, right? You should change your name to Mark. Bless your heart.

Nothing stays the same, everything changes but not gonna lie this one stings a little. I'm going to miss all of it but I find myself thinking how much it's gonna suck not having ShoBox on Friday nights. That commentary team, throughout its changes over the years, was my personal fav. RIP Showtime boxing

Sad Day for Boxing.

Showtime was always the scrappier, younger sibling to HBO. It embraced the smaller weight divisions, and wound up showing some of the best boxing because of that risk-taking. Corrales-Castillo I, Super Six, Vazquez-Marquez, and Donaire KO5 Darchinyan. Enough said.

Where is boxing going? I’m afraid it’s headed to more and more PPVs.

Ya. Great Memories. I had always supported Corrales because he was a local guy. It was the weekend of Boxing Writers awards. So there was a ton of Boxing folks in attendance. Chavez Sr and Junior, Winky Wright, Shane Moseley, etc. Also was excited that I'd get to see another fave, Juan M Marquez as the co feature. Only time I've ever been to Vegas and I hit the jackpot! 🥊

Question: would espn attempt to grab PBC to get a bigger share of the boxing audience, excluding DAZN.

Zero chance. Espn and top rank are exclusive to each other. Espn cannot put on boxing without top rank involvement through the term of the agreement.

you are correct about Arum and all that and it is also the reason boxing is in the sad state

All other sport has a commision of some kind and answeres to its fans not to its pockets. Such is life, but it is a sad day to see the direction of the fight game, i always believed that boxing needed and needs a lead into its fights and Show was doing that now only die hard's and stragglers will stay with boxing. I saw the fights that were mnetioned it was a good time to be a fight fan, less ugly going around back then, as it is with most things that matter when it is gone we will say ......."WTF Happened" sad what boxing has done to boxing. And if you think the loss of platforms and chances at new fans it not sad for and bc of boxing well we disagree is all...............

That’s unfortunate. Would love to see boxing under one “roof.”

it would be nice ... but given the stances of PBC and Top Rank for working together, it would be difficult. ESPN basically outsourced its boxing matchmaking etc to Top Rank. I'd bet Amazon Prime wins now that they have proven (unlike Netflix) they can do a love thing successfully.

The real downside is ESPN becomes the only place where boxers can get a large audience - otherwise boxers are leaning on niche/high per user.

I've watched some ONE Championship MMA shows on Prime. Perfect quality, not a single issue. I'm actually saving money and losing a streaming service with this. Main reason I have Paramount+ w/showtime was boxing and MMA. I have Prime and plan on always having it so PBC going there is nice and Bellator getting bought by PFL which is on ESPN. Very sad to see Showtime go but I'm losing a bill and when I cancel I'll be sure to let them know why.
