I was at the Estrada v. Chocolatito 2 this past weekend and although it was close and it seemed/sounded like Estrada was landing the heavier punches I had Choco winning the fight! It was a memorable night I’ll never forget especially because Choco signed my cowboy hat as he was leaving. Keep up the good writing, Dan!
Well said Dan - Carlos Sucre joins the likes of C J Ross and Adalaide Byrd (both ridiculous scorecards for Canelo) in the pantheon of incompetent (or bent) judges.
Sucre will no doubt blame his view of the fight or something like that to excuse himself - imo the current archaic method of judging big fights should be updated.
I'm Black so I had no dog in the race between Estrada and Gonzalez. I was there Saturday and I saw a draw and this looks like a whole bunch of crying because your fighter lost. Paul Williams is my 2nd favourite fighter ever and I admit Lara beat him. Gonzalez clearly lost to Gonzalez so stop protecting your favorite fighter.
I couldn't agree more! My family is from Estrada's hometown so I'm forced to listen to their BS about how he won but it's very clear Chocolatito won that fight!
Chocolatito was supposed to be long in the tooth & get knocked out by Estrada. The robbery leaves him with a mere moral victory when in reality he should be unified champ in yet another weight division.
Great point about still being potentially undefeated. My immediate thoughts were that he should have the 1 knockout loss on his record, but Rungvisai never would have had the rematch opportunity if the first fight had the right decision.
While there was a wide card that decided it like this fight Gonzalez was busier and landed more that Cuadras. I can see the argument for the harder more effective punches in Cuadras' favor, but I don't see that one in the same light as Gonzalez-Rungvisai I or Gonzalez-Estrada II.
I honestly can't see much of a difference, I thought both fights 6-6 or 7-5 and in both fights a judge had it 117-111. In person Gonzalez didn't seem to really be landing significant punches, it was nearly shoe shining. Gonzalez is loved by the media though.
Hey DAN,I will love to READ what was your opinion RIGHT AFTER CHOCO VS CUADRAS SLUGGFEST,117-111 & 116-112 lopsided "WIN".Just look at how CHOCO'S FACE looked. But I didn't hear, from many commentators nor EXPERTS,say much.
Choc won the fight. Close but won. You don't judge based on his face. You judge based on 3-minute segments. I also did not watch the fight live. I was in London that day covering GGG-Brook.
I thought Cuadras beat Gonzalez 7-5 and a judge had that 9-3. Maybe it's just karma for Gonzalez getting that gift. Gonzalez always gets passes and excuses.
Gonzalez didn't do much at all in the first four rounds, so those are all Estrada rounds. Chocolatito took the fifth and Estrada came back and got the sixth. That's already five rounds for Estrada. Now, how can you begin to claim that Estrada didn't win at least one or two of the last six? I watched it three times and depending on what the judges were looking at Chocolatito could have earned the decision, but to say he was robbed is ridiculous.
CompuBox is not everything - but Estrada outlanded Gonzalez in exactly 1 of the 12 rounds (the 11th and that was by 1). In terms of power punches, Estrada outlanded Chocolatito in 4 of the 12 rounds. Having the 12th for Estrada was wild. There was certainly no grounds at all to give more than 2 of the first 4 rounds to Estrada.
Was at the SSR v Choc Gonzales I at MSG .. I vividly remember the MSG faithful giving a standing ovation at the end .. but a chorus of BOOOOs after the decision went to SSR. The rematch happened way too qucikly also. And speaking of hurt.. the Chico stoppage against MW still kind of stings. Am I wrong to suggest, Chico wasn't in any serious danger of getting hurt and if one man on this planet deserved to continue on.. for a miracle ending (which he later proved in spades).. it was him?? RIP to a legend. Thanks DTM!
Chico's corner may or may not have been right to throw in the title - but there was not going to be another miracle. Maybe there would have been a 6th or 7th knockdown. I still look at it as Mayweather's finest performance.
Worst decision i’ve seen since Darleys Perez got gifted a draw against Crolla after being outboxed and having 2 points deducted.
I agree. Estrada is a tremendous fighter but he did not win this fight in my opinion...

If you want to talk about who really won fights Cuadras clearly beat Gonzalez and got robbed.
Cuadras hit him a lot, especially late ... but 8-4 or 9-3 Gonzalez was reasonable https://www.reddit.com/r/Boxing/comments/527biz/gonzalezcuadras_punch_stats/
It was was a close fight, no way 9-3 for that fight was reasonable. That's why this feels like Karma.

So if it Cuadras vs Gonzalez was close abd a judge had it 9-3 where was your outrage? It's because Gonzalez is a golden boy to the boxing media.
My outrage is because Roman clearly beat Estrada. It is merely taken up a notch by the 9-3 card.

Dan,you still think 117-111 & 116-112 is a "CLOSE WIN" by CHOCO?
He's a hypocrite, he's babying a fighter he likes.
That's a ROBBERY.
I asked him the same thing, I had Cuadras beating Gonzalez so this crying is hilarious to me.
I should still be PISSED OFF.
