This fight raised more questions than it answered. For instance, is Marcus McDonnell an even worse referee than Laurence Cole?

Another atrocious set of scorecards from BBBofC judges who are proving themselves just as incompetent or corrupt as their US counterparts.

Jack Catterall clearly won the fight and Josh Taylor has gone down in my estimation by claiming he won the fight so no rematch is needed and coming out with the weight issue excuse for his poor performance.

A true sportsman would have accepted he got away with this win due to bad judging and would have expressed some sympathy for Jack Catterall who has been robbed of his world title after ten years of hard work and for all we know may never actually become a world champion now.

I hope Jack puts in an appeal to the sanctioning bodies, however the damage is done and the judges probably won’t be punished in any way for their scorecards.

Man I thought Jack Reiss liked taking over the attraction that guy had him beat. But Jack did complain about too much water in the corner and was going to have the guy investagated or some crazyness....... all for the good of boxing of course.

Decisions like that remind me why I fell out of love with boxing for so long.

Not a good performance, but enough to retain his titles in his home town. It was a pretty ugly affair, lots of grappling, but still two guys giving their all. I would’ve been okay with a draw or a decision the other way. It was damn close.

Agreed

Taylor being in his hometown should have no bearing on the outcome. He won fewer rounds and landed fewer punches, i.e. he lost.

Agreed - this was a clear robbery. Only Taylor fans or somebody who can’t score for shit would claim otherwise.

I knew Taylor would claim weight issues but before the fight he was claiming he made the weight easier than ever before because of his nutritionist.

Another sorry day for boxing - gutted for Jack Catterall.

Not a clear robbery. I’m not a Taylor fan either. Also sorry for Catterall, but he didn’t do what he had to to take that title. Boxing being as it is. Not saying a decision would have been a bad call, just saying that in the champs home town? Close decision? I don’t like anyones odds.

The reason I called it a robbery is that I don't think it was really close - I think Catterall was a clear winner and Taylor was terrible.

Even when Catterall didn't keep pressing his advantage over the last few rounds Taylor didn't land much clean to show he was worthy of winning those rounds.

The fight was in Taylor's home country (Josh is from Prestonpans in Edinburgh not Glasgow) and Jack is English but of course none of that should really matter and whether that's naive or not doesn't change the fact that Jack was shafted.

It shouldn’t matter. But it does. Imho Catterall was the better boxer but Taylor, as lousy as he looked, wouldn’t allow Catterall to be dominant in the fight. It was a real mess though. The grappling was very combative. Taylor landed more reverse headlocks than punches I think. I’ll have to check the compugrab numbers.
