I obviously wish Vergil all the best and hope he returns back to full health as soon as possible.
I'd be very interested to find out the root cause of how Ortiz Jr ended up with rhabdomyolysis.
There are various innocent causes but it must be said that there are also causes involving a few types of drugs including cocaine, amphetamines - sometimes used to get through hard workouts while reducing calories and they also actually help with the weight loss process - and even anabolic steroids.
I'm not accusing anyone of anything dodgy but this is a very unusual health problem for a very fit young boxer to get and the reason for it must be found.
Thanks for opening up that talk about this situation health situation but still we are living in times that there is always suspections, some justified some not. I found it odd just odd bc of the effort and intense work it takes to maintain health at peak condition. Shame this has to even be thought of at a time of concern for a athele. Nature of the bussiness at this time tho. Hope to hear more.
Yes unfortunately speculation is always going to happen in a sport that's the dirtiest on the planet. If the sport had proper drug testing this would reduce such speculation.
Certainly Ortiz Jr would be very unlucky to have suddenly got a metabolic disorder with only a week to go until the fight especially at his age 23 (24 on March 25th).
If we consider the other reasons that can cause Rhabdomyolysis and look at what Ortiz Jr will have been doing in recent weeks - reducing calories while still trying to get through tough workouts - then the most likely cause is going to be taking some form of amphetamine as these help to give extra energy and help with weight loss.
In addition there have been rumours recently that Ortiz Jr was having trouble shifting the weight - which if true makes using an amphetamine even more likely.
We will probably never know the truth for sure of course. Let's just hope Vergil fully recovers and is all the wiser for this episode.
