It's free if you get Netflix, not a PPV

I don’t understand why you always defend Jake. Everyone who pays to subscribe to your sub stack love the sport and don’t appreciate Jake making a joke out of it. Yes, we understand that people are going to watch and there is money to be made but why don’t you ever criticize him? He has fought one person his own age and he lost. Everyone else has been at least ten years older than him and retired. Now he’s gona absolutely destroy Mike Tyson. The guy is almost 60. What is the point? Not everything is just about money. I’m sure people would pay to watch a lot of fucked up shit, doesn’t make it right.

Total mockery of the sport of boxing. When, pray tell, will Jake Paul go against someone other than old retired fighters and uber-drivers

Total mockery of a sport that has a Middleweight "Champion" that hasn't defended his belt in 3 years and counting, a mandatory challenger for the sports biggest start named William Scull (IBF 168), guys like Oscar Valdez allowed to fight right after testing positive for a banned substance, sanctioning bodies that have multiple champions in the same weight class, a top promoter (PBC) that puts 80%+ of its events on PPV... I could go on.

This fight is stupid, but let's not act like this is why boxing is a mess.

This is an absolute joke and a mockery of a sport that has tried so hard over the last decade to compete with “the big four”. This does absolutely NOTHING for the sport of boxing.

Expand full comment

Boxing has tried to compete with the big 4? How exactly has it done that? Who has made this claim? There is no terrestrial TV coverage in the U.S. for ages now, if ESPN covers a fight on Sportscenter it's either a Jake Paul or MMA crossover fight, or 30 seconds on a Canelo or Tank event. Boxing is niche, has been since the 90s, and that's ok. I don't care about this circus, but let's not act like this is boxing's problem... it's not even one of boxing's top 100 problems that fights like this happen.

To be a true boxing fan is to embrace the good and ignore the bad.

Excited for Netflix involvement in boxing. In the last year we've seen NBC/Peacock, Amazon and now Netflix get involved. This is positive momentum for the sport that is always labeled as dying.

It’s a fucking joke I agree with you boxing Jim and Mike,it does nothing for boxing,Netflix will get record ratings and media coverage but it does nothing for the state of boxing in the long term which in my opinion is dying a slow death

DEEP BREATH EVERYONE ..

I have warmed somewhat to Paul’s presence in the world of boxing (over time). His terrific support for women’s boxing has been refreshing and much appreciated.

Let’s be clear. Jake Paul is not yet a noteworthy professional prizefighter based upon his personal accomplishments inside a boxing ring.

He is, however, a showman and creator of spectacles and this is his greatest one yet. I have no doubt that the number of zeroes he will provide to Tyson will ensure that he earns a stoppage victory over Iron Mike (as ludicrous and distasteful as that is to a traditional fan of the sport).

Before crucifying Jake Paul alone, however, we have to remember that Mike is 100-percent complicit in this charade of a prize fight. He should also receive just as much of our wrath.

I suppose our only hope is that Tyson is unable to secure a boxing license, but you and I both know the dollars involved here will make too much sense to someone and he will receive a license.

🤷

I dont know how anyone can criticize Jake Paul the promoter. The fighter, yeah. As promoter he has now secured tv deals with both DAZN and Netflix. He has good crowds. He's invested in women's boxing. Look at his ring compared to every other promoters ring. It's covered in advertisements. Most other promoters rings are basically bare.

Also, if people are hate watching his fights you are feeding the beast you claim to hate.
