Canelo is simply too fast, too smart, and too strong now. Sorry but BJS has no chance. This guy is one of the greats. Lastly, great article Dan.

Canelo is very good. Great. Not so sure. There's talk of him facing uniting light heavyweights too. Let him get past Plant first (Saunders will be a walk). And as for fighting Artura Beterbiev, well that will likely look a lot like this fight, only with Canelo on the receiving end. Beterbiev is Golovkin writ large and, as most realistic boxing fans know, Canelo is 0-1-1 against Golovkin (he will, however, bear him, perhaps even knock him out, in a third fight cause Canelo took yet another page out of the Mayweather playbook, which is wait till the truly dangerous opponents are old).

Lol. These sort of тАЬpunditsтАЭ resemble the тАЬfake newsтАЭ and тАЬstop the stealтАЭ crowd. Canelo keeps moving up and facing top contenders and people keep wanting him to move up in weight. Yeah, canelo is now dodging Usyk! Lol. And if you think canelo lost the first fight against the one dimensional GGG then youтАЩd recognize GGG lost against Jacobs and the canelo fight should not have taken place.

I think the scores against Golovkin were pretty fair. They were very close though. I give Canelo a good shot against Beterbiev, IтАЩd like to see that fight. Saying Canelo is ducking anybody is easy enough to say I guess. I wouldnтАЩt advise saying it to him though....

we'll agree to disagree. I could give you that Canelo won the second, but the first a tie. Not even close. More importantly, Beterbiev versus Canelo is a blow out. I think he knows it too. I suspect that if there's any chance for that fight to move forward, we won't see it for at least three years by which time Artur will be 39. He might fight Bivol, however who is not nearly as dangerous. The Kovalev fight was meaningless. It's hard to remember a more shot fighter.

There's no doubt that Canelo is a very good fighter but there are so many aspects of his career that I find suspect that I just sound like a hater if I list them eg: Kovalev a 36 yr old alcoholic, Smith with only 30 days to relocate to the US & train specifically for Canelo etc.

I scored both Canelo vs Golovkin fights for Gennadiy - the first one clear & the second closer but because Canelo ate Golovkin's jab, really a power punch, all night I thought Golovkin nicked it - like you I could stretch to a draw but not a win - the judging in both of these fights were very suspect to say the least.

I think he learned more than the shoulder roll from his fight from Mayweather. He seems to truly be a master at always setting the odds in his favour, either by timing, age or, i suspect in the case of beterbiev, simply not fighting him. Contrast that wth teofimo lopez, an admitted loud mouth schnook with a father you just wished would go away, deliberately targeting who many people considered was the best fighter in the world while Lomanchenko was still in his prime. If Canelo fights beterbiev in the next year and somehow managed a win, I'll be the first to convert and admit i was wrong, but right now he's just floyd may weather.

We seem to be on the same wavelength with regard to Canelo and Mayweather.

Beterbiev has just turned 36 and so Canelo may have to wait a year or so until he's showing signs of decline - if he hasn't already as he had an extensive amateur career (295 - 5 record) and can't be at his best for much longer.

Canelo is a very good fighter but imo there isn't fighters of high enough quality around at the moment to show that he's one of the greats.

There's also questionable aspects of his career that suggests he's not one of the greats.
