good for him. pretty refreshing for anyone these days to take responsibility for something. I would welcome him back with open arms

Oh my. This is a rarity. I'm glad he reviewed the bout and is taking some action, although I am not sure it is needed. Every judge sees, hears and looks for something different for every fight and although I appreciate his re-review, it is what it is. He saw and heard what he saw and heard at the time and since fights are scored round by round, it makes sense that his score is what it is. If nothing else, his statement makes me realize all that goes on at ringside and some of the things the judges have to put up with. Thank you Stephen.

Judges are supposed to score a boxing match according to set criteria and they are trained to do that by the various commissions.

Blea's scorecard may not be the worst the fight game has ever seen but it was too wide.

this man made a big mistake by doing this! He should just discussed the matter with the proper officials followed thru on the "corrective action" as quickly as possible. BIG MISTAKE

Even that was all judges are wrong! He said clrearly crowd noise influenced. Wao. For the crowl valdez won by KO jajajaj

Good on him willing to review his process and work to be better. I believe that is the most important aspect of this. Annual training like what the major sports do is necessary if we want to reduce these incidents.

Ok. Crowd influence is an issue here.

Let’s work on that.

Good for you judge go for it.

You may need to yell the people to stay clear and really mean it.. it's important.

See if something can be solved where judges aren't stepped on and blinded with foot traffic so it cannot happen over and over again. The back to back to back carelessness and corruption is extremely frustrating I appreciate you taking action so thank you.

In my opinion Valdez was very fortunate with the win

Hi Benito, I’m an American boxing fan.

Thank you

My American boxing fan friend. In all honesty, do you as an American have an issue or a problem with boxers from the same country of origin as Oscar Valdez (perfects you have a negative bias towards them) maybe through political reasons or political affiliations? Or do you admire boxers that are of the same country of origin as Oscar Valdez. Honesty. Thank you.

Benito,

I always route for an American fighter, with that, I’m always on the side of the boxer who deserves the win. The fight was very close and could have gone either way. I’m sorry you would even consider that I’m not a patriot,or have a political agenda or I have a problem with Valdez in any way as a human being… as respectful as I can say it… this is your mind and how you think.

No, I was just trying to make sure. I have no problem with you rooting for the American boxers, you should. Unless you're a Trump supporter then there would be an issue to think about. Lol.

The 2-point swing from Blea's scorecard to both the other judge's scorecards shows it wasn't the worst scorecard the sport has seen - so why the statement via the WBC?

TBH I don't regard either the scorecard or the subsequent apology as genuine.

Blea is a good friend of WBC president and part time chemist, Mauricio Sulaiman, and so was possibly under orders to make sure Sulaiman's dear friend Valdez won.

Ozzy, tell me the truth now is Valdez's and Sulaiman's country of Origin the real reason why you do not like them?

Expand full comment

Not to ansere for Ozzy but would that be wrong to pull for or be against a fighter due to where he is from ?

No, but most people would root for their countrymen. But when fans are from neutral countries then they can cheer for anyone they want.

In the case of a certain nationality (mine nationality) we absolutely love it when people from other countries cheer for our boxers. It brings us even more pride, joy, honor and means more to us than you can possibly imagine.

My friend may I please know what is your nationality? Thank you.

What country you are from has always been a part of boxing, I do believe it may have shifted a bit and gone more to the personality of a boxer how he carries himself in this era of boxing borders are blurred in that reguard. Be interesting to watch Joshua - Usyk and see if that plays a part both in the ring, with the fans, and also with the cards if it goes that far. Yes its a part of boxing still but I dont think as big a part as it used to be. Several reasons for that acutally.

Great response. But the fact of asking your nationality is to know where you are from, then follow up by asking you if you follow any boxers from my country, then finally asking you history (knowledge mostly) with my country. It's just a matter of curiosity. I assure you I mean no disrespect.

Although I do write a lot. 😅
